Crowned Halliday’s Pinot Grigio of the Year. Pour yourself a glass of the Australian Pinot Grigio this summer in celebration of 20 years of winemaking at Tar & Roses.

The release of the 2025 vintage of Pinot Grigio marks 20 years shaping the Australian Pinot Grigio for Tar & Roses. With its unmistakable colour, style and texture, it’s become synonymous with Tar & Roses.
20 Years ago, the Tar & Roses journey began in the vines of Priorat, Spain. The founding winemaking partnership of Narelle King and Don Lewis were inspired by the Mediterranean varietals; Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Sangiovese, and, of course, Pinot Grigio.
What started as a passion project led by curiosity and experimentation has grown into something far greater: a portfolio of wines that celebrate alternative Mediterranean styles interpreted through the unique lens of Australian terroir.
While it took several years for alternative varietals to gain traction, today our Tar & Roses Pinot Grigio is widely enjoyed and recognised by its signature blush hue, .
Winemaker Narelle King reflects on the success of the Pinot Grigio, proclaiming that “Don’s captains call to not strip out the colour, was in hindsight, the best decision we’ve ever made.”
The 20 year milestone has coincided with an exciting accolade from the 2026 Halliday Wine Companion Awards, with our 2024 Pinot Grigio crowned Pinot Grigio of the Year, and declared ‘Australian Pinot Grigio of the Year’.
“The style is set – from the warm blush colour and lightly spice-fuelled scent to the textural palate – and it’s a winner, especially at this price.”
