Our Wines
Tar and Roses Pinot Grigio

Tar & Roses

2011 Pinot Grigio

Grapes for our Pinot Grigio are sourced from three vineyards, Merron Park, Tarup Ridge and Stratford vineyards. In 2011 a greater percentage of fruit was sourced from the Stratford Vineyard just north of Nagambie. This vineyard is warmer than the other two with more colour in the skins resulting in a wine with a deeper pink hue than previous vintages. The crisp classic pear like characters from the cooler higher vineyards still remain obvious. Try it with Calamari salad with sliced pears, walnuts, red capsicums and rocket.

Tar and Roses Shiraz

Tar & Roses

2010 Shiraz

Sourced mainly from Heathcote our Shiraz parcels come from both deep Cambrian soil as well as gravellier sandy loam. The richer fuller characters of the wines from the Cambrian soil are tempered by the lifted aromatics and firmer acid structure of the shiraz from the tougher gravellier soils. Together they complement each other to produce this classic Central Victorian shiraz blend, replete with savoury characters and rich chocolate combined with caramalised vegetables and beautiful fine tannins.

Tar and Roses Sangiovese

Tar & Roses

2007 Sangiovese

Sangiovese is a thin skinned variety like Nebbiolo. Known for its earthy more than fruity notes, it has attractive mid red colour and can be characterized by high levels of tannin well balanced by acid. Damp earthy aromas with mocha and bitter chocolate combine with assertive tannins, good fruit sweetness and acidity. A great accompaniment to goats cheese and caramalised onion tart with rocket and parmesan salad.

Tar and Roses Tempranillo

Tar & Roses

2010 Tempranillo

Grown largely in the Rioja and Ribero del Duera regions of Spain, Tempranillo is well suited to the warm, dry summers of Central Victoria. Our Tempranillo comes from both Heathcote and the Alpine Valleys. It is an early ripener and easily reaches full maturity in the Heathcote region. Ripening is slightly later in the Alpine Valleys with good fruit maturity still reached. Although characterised by its chalky tannins, Tempranillo retains good fruit and spice lift often seen as black cherries and licorice.

Tar and Roses Nebbiolo

Tar & Roses

2006 Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a thin skinned grape variety known for its unusual light colour and deceptively high level of tannins. Grown famously in the Piedmonte region of north west Italy, Barolo's and Barbaresco's are the quintessential Italian wine. Nebbiolo is described as having Tar and Roses on the nose, which was the inspiration for our name! Well worth drinking with lamb shanks and parsnip potato mash.

Tar and Roses Miro

Tar & Roses

2006 Miro

Our Spanish 'Miro' is a blend of 100 year old bush vine Carineña and Grenache and with lesser amounts of younger trellised Carineña, Grenache, Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot. All are sourced from around the small village of Porrera in the Priorat. Whilst not considered strong varietals in Australia, Grenache and Carineña are exceptional in Porrera, showing a highly fragrant nose of mulberries and plums and a palate characterized by a level of slatiness imparted from the licorella rock. It is this licorella (or black slate) that gives these varietals a minerality and silky richness unique to this special place.
